GOLIAD – The Goliad County Sheriff’s Office has determined suspects in the recent vandalism of over 20 mailboxes throughout the rural areas in the county.

According to GCSO Captain Tom Copeland, 24 mailboxes were destroyed on April 1 and 2.

“We have recovered a substantial amount of evidence in that case and we expect charges to be directed to the district attorney’s office,” Copeland said Monday. “We expect charges to be presented against a number of people.”

Copeland said felony criminal mischief charges could be filed if the dollar amount of all the damages exceeds $1,500.

Copeland said he also expects charges of engaging in criminal activity to be filed if there are three or more charged with the crime.

Sheriff Kirby Brumby said Monday the GCSO would like to know of other residents in the county who had their mailboxes destroyed on April 1 and 2. Residents can contact the GCSO at 645-3451.
