District 11 fashion show, storyboard entries must be turned ion by April 8

The district fashion show and storyboard entry deadline is Monday, April 8.

All paperwork must be turned into the Goliad County Extension Office by April 8. All information can be found on the District 11 website. Those interested in judging, should contact the Goliad County Extension Office ASAP. The state photography entry deadline is Monday, April 15. Photos must also be emailed by April 15.

State fair validation tag order

Those interested in exhibiting a sheep, goat or pig at the 2013 state fair, call the Goliad County Extension Office to place a tag order.   

The cost of this year’s tags will be $8. The deadline to order tags will be Friday, April 12.

2013 horse validation

The 2013 horse validation will be Wednesday, May 1.

Cost will be $10 per horse.

Validation and payment is required of all horses to be shown, regardless if they were entered this year or last. Instructions and all necessary forms are available and include steps for validating new horses and for reactivating horses entered last year.

2013 horsemanship school

The 2013 horsemanship school will be held on Sunday, June 16 and Monday, June 17 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Bee County Expo Center arena. 

The program is only for 4-H Club members and provides education on horse safety, general riding practices, equipment and problem solving and how to improve overall confidence and ability when working with horses. 

Teri Antilley, Extension horse program specialist in the Department of Animal Science, runs the summer horsemanship school Program and said, in addition to providing a structured horsemanship education, the program offers much more. 

Participants work for eight hours a day and cover specific topics as safety, types of reins, horse theft awareness and bits, stopping and backing, rollbacks and turnarounds, gaits and leads, speed control, simple lead changes and flying lead changes, showmanship and ground safety.

Ambassador short courses

The Texas 4-H Livestock Ambassador program strives to provide high school aged 4-H members the opportunity to develop and practice advanced leadership skills related to mentoring other youth, and to become advocates for animal agriculture.  

It will offer a short program July 15-18 at Texas A&M in College Station. Cost will be $200.

Another program will be offered at Texas Tech University in Lubbock on July 22-24. Cost for that program will be $150.

Lamd, goat camps scheduled

Those interested in attending the lamb or goat camp at Howard College this summer, can get registration forms and more information at the Goliad County Extension Office.

The goat camp will be June 2-4. The lamb camp will be June 9-11.

Golf Challenge camp

Texas 4-H will host the 2013 Golf Challenge camp April 26-28 in College Station.

The camp will be limited to the first 30 youth (intermediate and seniors) to sign up on 4-H Connect. The registration fee is $225 and will cover meals, hotel lodging, professional golf instruction, and all other instructional fees.
