Lady Horns improve to 7-0 in district title chase

The George West Lady Horn’s softball team won two important district games this past week. On Monday night they defeated their rivals the Lady Bulldogs from Three Rivers by a score of 12-1. Maggie Ham was the starting pitcher. Maggie pitched her ninth no hitter of the season. She struck out 11 Lady Bulldogs in five innings of work.

Offensively the Lady Horns pounded out 11 hits. Leading the way for the Lady Horns was Kate Jimerson. Kate was 2-3 with a double. Marley Snider was 2-4 with 3 RBI’s. Kayla Wallek also was 2-3. Salina Chapa, Shawna Talley, Tiffany Garza and Maggie Ham each got a hit. The Lady Horns finished the first half of district with a 6-0 mark. The Lady Horns season record 19-4. Great job Lady Horns!

On Thursday night the Lady Horns traveled to Freer to begin the second half of district. The Lady Horns shut out the Lady Bucs by a score of 10-0. Salina Chapa had an excellent night at the plate. Salina went 3-3 and scored three runs for the Lady Horns. Kate Jimerson had a double. Tiffany Garza was 2-3 with 2 RBI’s. Marley Snider was 2-4 with 3 RBI’s. Shawna Talley, Maggie Ham and Kayla Krietsch each had hits for the Lady Horns.

Great defensive games were played by Kayla Krietsch, Marley Snider and Jessica Lichtenberger. Maggie Ham picked up her 18th win of the season. She went five innings gave one hit and struck out 14 Lady Bucs. With the win, the Lady Horns improved to 20-4 overall and 7-0 in district. The next home game will be Friday night in George West vs. Natalia Lady Mustangs. Come out and enjoy some softball.
