Editor:
Today I would like to comment on Cipriano Perez’s letter, “Who are the real patriots?” (published on Nov. 18).
The tea party people are not a political party. They are an accumulation of all parties. We do love our country and want to retain the freedoms that this great country’s forefathers (who admittedly were led by their faith in God) assured us in the Constitution of the United States of America. What Mr. Perez seems to have forgotten or perhaps doesn’t know is that the highest authority in our land is the Constitution. Presidents will come and go, some good, some bad, each with their own agenda. The agenda of this president appears to be to dissolve this country and make it a weak part of a global community. Is that the change that this administration ran on? The president is a very charismatic speaker, unfortunately often speaking with a forked tongue. It is no secret that everything he promised during his campaign has failed from unemployment to the war in Afghanistan. He now boasts that we are no longer in a recession. The stimulus has turned everything around by saving or creating thousands of jobs. But according to the latest information, those jobs were created in districts that don’t even exist. I fear all that matters to him is his popularity and appointing some of the least qualified people to surround him. Acorn, Van Jones, Kevin Jennings and Rev. Wright, to name but a few. These are all questionable people and groups, yet the president has not said anything to reassure us that he is not of the same mind set.
The president also seems to find a kinship with Muslims as demonstrated by his reaction to the Fort Hood terrorist attack on our military. He doesn’t want to jump to any wrong conclusions about the alleged shooter, Hassan.
Is our president deaf, or prefers not to hear what the American people want? Surely he realizes that these terrorists could in our legal system be acquitted for any number of reasons. Is this decision not putting American lives in danger? It has become very obvious that his administration is not listening. They vote on bills without reading them and seem to follow blindly what this president wants regardless of the consequences we the people have to pay. No job, higher taxes and demands to buy what we can’t afford or be jailed. I ask is that the definition of a real patriot?
I feel, from what I hear and see is going on in our government today, the tea party people have far more patriotism than any one in our government has displayed of late.
Sincerely,
Faye Freeman
