Refugio Bobcats top preseason AP poll

The Refugio Bobcats are the defending state runners-up but the favorite to win it all in 2014.

At least, according to the preseason Associated Press poll, that is.

Refugio received 12 first-place votes and 232 points to secure the top spot in the 2A rankings.

Mart, with 11 first-place votes and 221 points, is second.

Tenaha, Albany and Hico round out the top five.

Sinton is the only other local team that makes an appearance in the rankings.

The Pirates are 17th in the 4A rankings.

In 6A, Allen, Katy, Cedar Hill, DeSoto and Trinity (Euless) make up the top five.

The 5A rankings has Aledo at No. 1, followed by Ennis, Longview, A&M Consolidated and Cedar Park.

Stephenville is atop the 4A rankings. Navasoto, Graham, Carthage and La Marque round out the top five.

Cisco is No. 1 in 3A, followed by Hallettsville, Cameron Yoe, Waskom and Newton.
