The first day of school has come and gone for the teachers of Runge this week and will soon be here for our precious students. Parents, please remember there are a lot of drivers on the roads these days that are not familiar with our school crossing zones. Drivers are also often distracted with food, coffee, electronics and business. In addition, today’s larger vehicles do not stop quickly. We all need to be watching out for our kids this year. Please teach your children to watch for traffic. Ask them to make eye contact with the driver before walking out into a street. We cannot depend on the drivers to keep them safe. We need to watch out for each other.

Don’t forget to join us at the Runge VFW on Saturday, Aug. 23 from 3 to 6 p.m., when the Floresville Christian Church will be providing food, fun and games while distributing school supplies for Runge students. Please join us and enjoy their gifts of love and show your appreciation.

The Runge Chamber of Commerce & Community Projects is an organization created for the benefit of making Runge a better place to live. Our Board of Directors, diplomats and members are dedicated to the community services, businesses and citizens. We work hard to improve Runge’s quality of life through working together, listening to the variety of needs identified and utilizing the unique skills and talents of our members. Please join us if you want to make a difference in making Runge a great place to open a business, educate your children and provide more opportunities for our ranchers and citizens to succeed.

One group working to help is the 2014 Miss Runge and her court. Their group has organized a “Jackets for Jackets” project to provide lightly used jackets for our students for the upcoming winter. Go ahead and look through your closets and find those jackets that are too small this year and donate them to those who are just growing into them. For more information, please contact Miss Rami Flores at 830-239-4919 to get your jackets donated.

For more information on what the Chamber is doing, call 830-200-8927. Until next week, be a blessing.
