Cartoon a lie

While reading your Saturday, June 14, paper, I saw the editorial page cartoon claiming 74 school shootings since the Newtown, Connecticut, shooting. I find myself wondering why your paper would publish a cartoon that made such an outright lie.

Even CNN, hardly a friend to law-abiding gun owners, has DEBUNKED that number. That number included numerous gang shootings, suicides and other incidents that didn’t even occur on school property. One of the “shootings” was even verified as a self-defense shooting at a college. CNN’s number of verified school shootings (where there was an adult or minor actively shooting inside or near a school) is 15, which is nowhere near 74. I believe a correction or retraction is in order.

The mythological “74” number was contrived by Mike Bloomberg’s gun-control group and hardly can be considered as an unbiased source. You do your readers a huge disservice by publishing that despicable cartoon.
