Editor:

My concern is what is going on at Coastal Bend College. I have a granddaughter who is looking for a two-year college. I used to live in Bee County, so I suggested CBC. I called to get some info and was very surprised at the reception I got. When told what course of career she was interested in, I was told that could be easily done online. Now, I know many courses are taught online. But this course requires clinicals, which I was assured she could take online also. That is impossible in my opinion.

After further conversation, the person I spoke to seemed to be a bit confused, or at the least didn’t know how to explain the process. She said due to lack of enrollment and lack of professors, the college was going through some changes. I hung up... Speaking to some residents I am still in contact with, I learned there was quite a bit of dissension within the college. Courses shortened or changed or even cut out. Many teachers leaving, unhappy students due to the way the changes were made. Looking into the college online, it sounded great, but talking to people involved, students and faculty, I have decided due to the confusion they seem to have and the discord within we will look into another college. Shouldn’t the board of directors be able to see the dissatisfaction of our students and faculty? There seems to be something very wrong there that is not being addressed. I’m writing this as a concerned grandparent of a college bound student.
