BEEVILLE – The unemployment rate in Bee County dropped three-tenths of a percent in December.
Bee and Refugio counties experienced the greatest change in unemployment rates over the same time last year.
Workforce Solutions of the Coastal Bend reports the December rate was 5.8 percent, compared to 6.1 percent in November and down from 6.6 percent a year ago.
With a December labor force of 13,412 persons, 772 were unemployed during the last month of 2013.
The 5.8 unemployment rate is higher that the December statewide rate of 5.6 percent. The national rate for December was 6.5 percent.
Workforce Solutions compiles monthly employment data for 12 counties along the Coastal Bend.
McMullen County has the lowest unemployment rate: 2.4 percent, down from 2.5 percent in November but up from the 2.1 percent rate a year ago.
Refugio County registered 3.5 percent in December, down from 3.6 percent in November and 4.2 percent a year ago.
The December unemployment rate in Live Oak County was 3.6 percent, down from 3.7 percent in November—the same rate as last December’s.
