The loss did not help the playoff picture for the Lady Cats as it left them with a 6-5 record in district (10-13 overall), not out of the total picture but needing to win their final three contests to have a good shot at making the postseason.
“In order to make the playoffs, we have our work cut out for us. The girls know what it’s going to take, and we’re attacking practices hard this week,” said S-T Lady Cat head coach Catherine Stowe.
The Lady Cats started well and held on to a slim 12-11 lead at the end of the first period. It was still a close game at the half with the S-T girls up by two, 23-21, at the break.
The second half was a different story. The Lady Bucks stepped up and rallied for 15 third quarter points against the Lady Cats. The S-T girls mustered just seven markers to fall behind, 36-30, heading into the final quarter.
The Lady Cats rallied but fell just short of the Lady Bucks. The S-T girls hit for 13 fourth quarter points while holding the Freer girls to 10.
The Lady Cats faced Odem on Tuesday night in Skidmore. On Friday, the S-T girls will travel to Mathis to meet the Pirates. The final game of the regular season will be next Tuesday when the George West Lady Horns pay a visit to Skidmore.
