Beeville – To celebrate the release of the latest Darla King mystery novel, Load the Boat, author Rosalee Richland will hold a signing event at the Joe Barnhart Bee County Library in Beeville next Saturday, Jan. 25, from 2 to 4 p.m. The Joe Barnhart Bee County Library is located at 110 W. Corpus Christi St.

Rosalee Richland is the pen name of two co-authors who write the Darla King series, one of which is Beeville native Rhonda Wilson Brinkmann. Brinkmann will be appearing as Rosalee Richland at the event.

“I’m really looking forward to the Beeville book signing,” Brinkmann said. “I don’t get back to Beeville very often lately, so it will be a treat seeing folks I haven’t seen in a while. I hope people will stop by, even if it’s just to say hello.”

Load the Boat is the latest addition to the noted Darla King series—a cozy mystery series that offers light escape filled with suspense and excitement. In Load the Boat, Darla and her friends take a New Year’s cruise. But Darla isn’t just enjoying the ride; she’s working onboard the ship as a square dance caller. She never expects to encounter black market porn, a dead crew member, and a mysterious man with a satchel—much less the arrogant FBI agent she met earlier in the year. As usual, Darla’s curiosity lands her in danger, and she escapes only with on-the-spot ingenuity. Mystery buffs will enjoy the challenge of figuring out this whodunit.

“My co-author and I are having fun crafting the plots that put Darla in the thick of things,” Brinkmann added. “Load the Boat takes place over the New Year holiday, so this signing is very timely!”

The first book in the series, Right and Left Grand, introduced Darla to her audience. Square dancers will recognize the titles of the books as square dance calls, reflecting Darla’s profession as a caller. Despite the cases that seem to keep coming Darla’s way, she and her friends portray the best of the square dance community.

Rosalee Richland is the pen name of two writers who met square dancing and continue to dance whenever they can find the time.

Brinkmann is a freelance writer/editor who grew up in Beeville. Her co-author, Cyndi Riccio, is a Texas A&M University professor. Both of them enjoy square dancing and creating a unique series that captures the imagination of dancers and non-dancers alike. Both Darla King books are available in paperback and eBook versions.
