Cellist Peter Myers and pianist Su-Ryeon Ji will present a concert of classical music, from baroque to contemporary, this Sunday at 3 p.m. in the Gertrude R. Jones Performing Arts Auditorium at Coastal Bend College.

The concert is sponsored by the Beeville Concert Association and St. Philip’s Episcopal Church Music in the Nave series. It was originally scheduled to be performed at St. Philip’s, but because of extensive renovations to the church, the performance was moved to the CBC auditorium.

Myers is an acclaimed cellist, passionate about cultural awareness and spreading enthusiasm for classical music. He has performed in musical outreach programs in Mongolia, Laos, Pakistan and Japan, with renowned violinist Midori.

Ji, a native of Korea, is known for her exciting and captivating performances. She was the winner of the American Guild of Organists Competition for Young Organists (RCYO) and was asked to perform at the AGO National Convention, a performance which was broadcast nationwide. Her numerous recitals were given at different venues throughout the USA, Europe and South Korea.

Ji recently received her doctorate in organ performance and at the Flora L. Thornton School of Music at the University of Southern California as a student of Cherry Rhodes. Her Bachelor’s degree in organ performance was from the University of Texas at Austin with Dr. Frank Speller.

She has also studied with organist Jacques van Oortmerssen at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam in Netherlands, where she explored various historic organs.

Ji began her music education in the United States with piano and organ teacher Patricia Powers when she came to Beeville to enroll at A.C. Jones High School to further her knowledge of English.

Admission to the concert is $10 for adults or a BCA season membership. Students through high school age are admitted free, as is any adult who brings two students. CBC students are admitted with their photo IDs.
