BEEVILLE – The Flint Hills Resources Community Action Council is launching the PowerX3jobs (pronounced power times three) video contest Monday, Jan. 13, at the House of Rock, 511 Starr St., in Corpus Christi at 6 p.m.

The Coastal Bend offers 65,000 well-paying jobs that most students don’t know about in the Eagle Ford Shale industries.

The video contest is designed to promote these jobs and highlight local education opportunities to help prepare them for these abundant careers.

Local area school administrators and counselors identified a need for short videos to promote interest among students, particularly those in middle school, in the Coastal Bend’s high-demand oil industry and construction-related jobs.

During the launch party you can hear more about PowerX3jobs which will be the core theme for the videos. The party is your chance to ask questions and learn how to create a winning video and meet other area film makers and the volunteers, industry representatives and schools behind this contest.

Appetizers will be available, and you’ll have access to a cash bar.

The public is invited to participate in the video contest and create a three-minute, or less, video for middle school students highlighting the incredible job and lifestyle opportunities created by oil exploration and refining, industrial construction and other new industries in our area.

There are four categories which include: middle school student, high school student, college student and adult non-student. And in each of these categories there will be three prizes; $500 for first prize, $250 for second prize and $150 for third prize. There is also an overall $350 middle school favorite prize.

The contest runs from Monday, Jan. 13, through Friday, Feb. 17, and is free to enter.
