Set your calendars for the fifth annual Coastal Bend Day of Giving, scheduled for Tuesday, Nov. 12.

Administered through the Coastal Bend Community Foundation, this event is a one day only, 24-hour, online donation event offering the unique opportunity to make gifts that are doubled to local charities serving the Coastal Bend area’s neediest. The generous donation of matching funds through a collaboration of area foundations makes your gift count twice.

Right here in Beeville, your $10 can be doubled to $20 on this one day, to support The Beeville Vineyard, The Women’s Shelter of South Texas or HALO-Flight in their efforts to support your neighbors in time of need.

Participating in the Day of Giving is simple. On Nov. 12, log into the Coastal Bend Day of Giving website, and click on the Donate Now button. The best part of making a donation on the Day of Giving is that donations are local, and the amount donated will be matched and doubled, up to $13,335 per nonprofit. Just think – a $10 gift becomes $20; a $100 gift becomes $200! Each nonprofit agency can raise at least $26,670 on Nov. 12. Donations can be directed to a favorite charity or to a general fund, to be distributed equally among the 30 nonprofits.

Every dollar makes a difference – a $10 contribution provides 70 meals for a family in need or gas money for a job interview. $25 allows the working poor to obtain treatment for diabetes or supplies an electric fan to an elderly person living in a home without air conditioning. And $100 provides a week of childcare or allows a foster child to participate in an after-school sport program. More than 75% of the donations made in the previous Days of Giving were less than $100.

Karen Selim, president & CEO of the Coastal Bend Community Foundation, explains, “Our nonprofits continue to face funding problems in the stagnant economy while the need for their services has increased to record levels. The Coastal Bend Day of Giving, by encouraging and rewarding the charitable instinct in all of us, allows us to reduce homelessness, fight hunger, support children, rescue animals – right here in the Coastal Bend.”
