BEEVILLE – The Moreno Middle School 7A team had another good outing on Tuesday night with a 26-6 victory over the Flour Bluff Hornets.

The win moves the young Trojans to a 2-1 record on the year.

The Trojans got great runs from Ryan Hernandez, as he scored three of the Trojans four touchdowns. Running back Orlando Martinez and QB Donyvan Givens also made some tough runs in the contest.

The Trojan defense stopped the Hornets on every series except for a late score deep into the fourth quarter. Defensive back Carlos Escamilla had a 99-yard interception return with only one second left in the half to give the Trojans a 14-0 lead.

The Beeville boys tacked on two more second half scores to make the final a 26-6 victory.

“The Trojans played tough all game long and never gave up the lead. Our boys have fixed minor mistakes and improved tremendously as the Trojans have out-scored their opponents 68-12 in the last three ball games,” said MMS coach Ricardo Maldonado.

“If we continue to play tough, physical Trojan defense, it’s going to be hard to beat us.”

In the early “C” contest, the two squads battled to an 8-8 tie. Rudy Montez had a fumble recovery returned for a TD. Juan P. Villarreal scored the two-point conversion for the Trojans. Joey Ibarra was the team’s leading rusher.

In the “B” match-up with the Hornets, the Trojans dominated for a 32-6 victory. Diego Carabajal led the way with 140 yards rushing and two touchdowns. Alix Arispe also scored twice for the MMS boys and converted one two-point conversion. Tristan Vasquez hauled in a short pass on another conversion attempt.

Defensively, the MMS Trojans were highlighted by the play of Jayden Lighthart. Lighthart had three QB sacks and blocked a Hornet punt to put the team in great field position.

The MMS boys play the Alice Coyotes on Tuesday night.
