The Bulldogs scored in the first quarter to take a quick 7-0 lead over the ’Cats. The S-T offense moved the ball and was in the Banquete red zone, but a fumble on a fourth down stopped the drive and put the ball back in the paws of the Bulldogs.
The Bobcats scored in the second period as quarterback Aaron Hughes found receiver Ryan Lakso open for a big 40-yard completion to set the S-T boys up inside Banquete’s five yard line. Wyatt Scott then plunged in from a yard out to give the Bobcats six points. The PAT kick sailed wide, but it was a 7-6 game with just under six minutes left in the first half.
The Bulldogs took advantage of the remaining minutes, putting up another 20 points on the scoreboard. Two came through the air and one was a 65-yard scamper by QB O.J. Ramirez to put the Bulldogs in front comfortably 27-6 at the half.
Single TD’s in the third and fourth quarters piled up the Banquete score. Skidmore-Tynan continued to move the ball and had great field position most of the night but failed to complete a scoring drive. Penalties, fumbles and sacks proved to be their downfall.
S-T QB Hughes passed for 201 yards on the night on a 14-20-1 performance. No further stats were made available.
The Bobcats travel to Freer on Friday night to tangle with the Buckaroos. Homecoming is Oct. 25 for the Bobcats, when they play host to Kingsville Academy.
