Tomas “Thomas” Zapata, 81, of George West, died Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2013.

Mr. Zapata was born Sept. 7, 1932, in Mathis to Ramon and Irena (Ramirez) Zapata. He married Enriqueta Leal and was a butcher by profession. He was a member of St. George Catholic Church in George West.

Survivors include his wife, Enriqueta Zapata of George West; three daughters, Gloria (Johnny) Molina of Beeville and Adelita (Ted) Yunis and Marta (Arturo) Gutierrez, both of George West; four sons, Mario (Karen) Zapata of Justin, Joe Luis (Mary) Zapata and Erasmo (Brenda) Zapata, both of George West and Thomas Enrique (Debra) Zapata of Beeville; 10 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; six sisters, Genoveva Ariaga of Bastrop, May Guerrero of Pasadena, Calif., Natalia Castaneda and Rosa Zapata, both of George West, Bernadette Castaneda of Victoria, and Rebecca Gamboa of San Antonio; and three brothers, Eugenio Zapata of Carrizo, Richard Zapata of George West and David Zapata of Sherman.

Visitation was held from 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 10, at Galloway & Sons Funeral Home chapel in George West and from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at St. George Catholic Church. A rosary was recited there that evening at 7 o’clock.

The funeral Mass was celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 11, at the church with Rev. Ryszard Zielinski officiating. Burial followed in George West Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Roland Gayton, Bobby Kinchloe, Albert Cisneros, Joe Luis Zapata Jr., Warren Reyna and Consuelo Zapata.

Honorary pallbearer was Christopher Zapata.
