A Phoenix resident since 1979, Richard was born Oct. 16, 1941, in Beeville, Texas, and entered into eternal life September 27, 2013, after a brief illness. He was predeceased by his parents, Dewey and Willie Maurine Baker.

A graduate of A.C. Jones in Beeville, Richard earned his B.S. and M.S. in mathematics from Texas Tech University, launching an exciting career in Aerospace at NASA and avionics with Honeywell. After Richard’s retirement, his dream of travel became reality. He and Elaine, his wife of 47 years, traveled to Europe, touring 25 countries. Other hobbies included fishing, reading, crossword puzzles and country western music.

Richard is survived by his wife, Elaine; daughter, Darcy Benoit; son, Andrew Baker and wife, Stephanie; grandchildren, Alexis, Spencer and Oliver Benoit; Kyra and Sophie Baker; sister, Joanne (Vic) Barris of Beeville; nieces, nephews, and cousins. He is remembered for his logical thinking, sense of humor and love of family.

Services were held Tuesday, Oct. 1, at All Saints Lutheran Church under the direction of Hansen Mortuary, followed by burial at Phoenix Memorial Park.
