BEEVILLE – The visiting Orange Grove Bulldogs had the bigger bite on Tuesday night as all three volleyball teams got the better of the Lady Trojan squads.

The freshman girls led off the evening, and with some good communication and good serves, the Beeville girls hung on for a 25-23 victory in set one.

The set was close the entire way with the hosts pulling away late for a 22-16 lead over the young Lady Bulldogs. Orange Grove rallied to tie the set at 23-23, but the Beeville girls put the final two points on the board.

Set two had the Beeville team riding some early momentum to a 5-1 lead, but the tenacious OG girls fought back to tie at 10-10 and then outscored the Lady Trojans 15-2 the rest of the way to capture a 25-12 victory to even the best of three match at 1-1.

Set three was a continuation of the second set. The Lady Bulldogs took an 8-1 lead and went on to another 25-12 victory to capture the match 2-1.

“The girls played well together early, and we’ve definitely improved our communication on the floor,” said freshman coach Tracy Garcia.

“We’ll be ready for district.”

The JV match also saw the OG team rally from a quick start by the Beeville girls. The Lady Trojans led 8-2 before the Lady Bulldogs began to chip away at that lead. It was tied at 11-11, but the momentum had shifted to the OG side of the net. The Lady Bulldogs took the lead and never trailed again in the first set to capture a 25-19 victory for the 1-0 lead.

The Beeville JV girls competed in set two and led 13-10 before the Bulldogs started to growl. The visitors ended the match with a 15-1 run to close out the Lady Trojans in set two 25-14.

Set one of the varsity’s best of five match was close most of the way. The Lady Trojans got early kills from Ciara Garcia and Margaret Downing to help build a 12-10 lead midway through the first set. Abigail Silva and Emma Downing also came up with kills for the Lady Trojans in the set.

The visitors picked up the offensive pace and went on a 15-4 run over the final minutes to capture set one 25-16.

Set two had the Beeville girls taking an early 5-1 lead off the serves of Eddika Ortega. But, the Lady Bulldogs would not be denied as they bolted to the lead with some good serves and better net play. The visitors went ahead at 10-9 and never looked back. The final score went to the Bulldogs 25-20 as OG took a 2-0 lead in the match.

Set three was dominated by the Lady Bulldogs. Everything clicked as the visitors led right from the start and eased to a 25-12 win.
