This is the first of a frequent series of picture pages designed to explore them.
The first is Carlos Reyes Park, 10 acres that include four baseball/softball fields, a soccer or football field, 10 swings, (supposed to be 11, but one is gone), two seesaws and a surrounding road — with wicked speed bumps — for jogging. A city list says it has a slide, but that’s long gone, along with one of the backstops. Not mentioned on the list is one, solitary picnic table beneath the park’s sole tree. One side of the park is adjacent to the back fences of neighborhood houses; some of them consider Reyes a private park. But it’s public. Go in the early morning; there’s just so much shade that single tree can offer.
