He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Bartley Alton Matheson; and three sisters, Dorothy May Leffingwell, Ida Clarice McGuffin and Anna Verline Luthringer.
Survivors include his wife, Willie Mae Naylor Matheson; a daughter, Marjorie A. Matheson Beyer; two sons, Kenneth Ross (Cindy) Matheson and Randel Phillip (Katheryn) Matheson; seven grandchildren, Billy R. Beyer, Stacie M. Tonne, Meredith J. Thoms, Mark R. Matheson, Matthew J. Matheson, Lauren E. Braddy, Rebecca A. Matheson; and eight great-grandchildren.
Visitation was held Monday, July 22, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Oak Park Memorial Funeral Chapel.
A chapel service was held there at 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 23, with Rev. Homer Hanna officiating. Music was provided by organist Roy Cox and vocalist Lynn Broadway. Interment followed at Glenwood Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Billy Ray Beyer, Mark R. Matheson, Matthew G. Matheson, William “Brady” Bednorz, Charles D. Tonne, Wayne Thoms, Flint Braddy and David Kinkler.
