With another gorgeous weekend behind us, all thoughts are of being outdoors and summer vacations. From supporting the Runge youth in their fund raising efforts to go to church camp, to attending the Karnes City Family Fun Day, Cinco de Mayo Celebration, and the Rabke United Methodist Decoration Day Sunday, this weekend was awesome. I may have only moved here one year ago this past week, but it didn’t take long to figure out that Karnes County is a great place to live. With so many things going on in the various communities, you can’t help realizing how important it is that we all work together. In Karnes County, the place to be on Independence Day is the Runge VFW. Each year the Runge Chamber organizes an incredible all day event held at the VFW. This year will be no exception. We are planning now, but we need your help. Make plans to attend and participate in our many activities. Many look forward to the outdoor activities like skeet shooting, soft ball, horse shoes, and the annual car show, while others like to join us for the great music, shopping, face painting and balloon animals, all enjoyed in air conditioning inside the VFW. There truly is something for everyone. Also, before you come, be sure to bake that famous pie your family raves about and enter it for bragging rights in the pie baking contest. You know there will be plenty of food and drink as well. For those having a family or class reunion, own a business, or are active in a club or organization, come join us and show your patriotism by being in our parade. Our theme this year is “Honor Our Vets”. Help us honor every vet in the area on July 4th in Runge. Of course the evening will end with an exciting fireworks display accompanied by wonderful patriotic music and family fellowship. Call the Runge Chamber now at 830-200-8927 for more information on the 2013 July 4th Celebration.

Has everyone noticed the beautification program going on in Runge? People have told me that Gloria Brewer is a one person beautification program. She is working full time with the City of Runge to not only clean up our streets, but to make them beautiful. Feel free to donate any of your own beautiful pots or plants that you want to add to the mix. Working together makes us all look good.

Don’t forget the first Tuesday of each month the Runge Chamber meets at the Runge Vet Clinic at 7 p.m. And Karnes County 2nd Friday Breakfast is coming up this week. Next month is in Runge. Have a great week.
