Since 2003, the Karnes City Rotary Club has provided $102,000 in academic and vocational scholarships to graduating seniors from all four Karnes County high schools.

All Karnes County high school seniors are reminded to apply for the 2013 Karnes City Rotary Club's Lonesome Dove Fest Foundation Scholarships. Thanks to generous sponsors and tremendous public support for the festival last year, the number and value of the scholarships were increased for 2013.

Applicants at all four county high schools are encouraged to apply for the academic scholarships available to each school - four for Karnes City High School and two each for Falls City, Kenedy, and Runge High Schools. In addition, there are now three vocational scholarships open to applicants from all four county high schools.

Each scholarship is now valued at $2,000, important assistance for deserving students as they begin their first year of college or trade/tech school.

Applications are available at the counselor's office at each school and the application deadline is Tuesday, May 14. Applicants must designate whether they are applying for an academic or vocational award. The schools will be notified of the winners prior to graduation. Award recipients must provide paid receipts for tuition or books to the Karnes City Rotary treasurer by May 2014 to receive the award or the scholarship is forfeited.

Seniors, go by the counselor's office today, pick up an application, complete it and turn it in by May 14.
