STJH girls capture medals at district meet

GEORGE WEST – The Junior High District Track Meet was held on April 6 with the young Bobcats and Lady Cats garnering several medals and honors.

Seventh-grade girls

In the triple jump, McKayla Rocha placed second with a leap of 28-8.5. Rocha was third in the long jump as she reached a distance of 13-3.25 into the sand. Melanie Wolf placed fifth in the discus with a throw of 59-0.5.

The 400-meter relay team of Nina Leal, Isabel Rosenbaum, Chesia Vial and Kaylynn Martinez finished fourth in 57.22. Peyton Lasko was fourth in the 800-meter run in 2:55.11.

Rocha came back and competed in the 100-meter dash and captured second in the sprint in 13.73. Rosenbaum was sixth in the same event with a time of 14.32. The 800-meter relay team of Kennan Wishert, Alyssa Bennett, Vial and Breanna Brown placed sixth at 2:07.99.

Lady Cat Kiera Metz won the 400-meter dash event with a good time of 1:11.22. In the 300-meter hurdles, Brown placed fourth in 1:06.17. Kaylynn Martinez, Rocha, Leal and Lasko made up the 1,600-meter relay team and finished third in 5:08.

In the team standings, the Lady Cat seventh-graders placed fourth with 75 points. Odem finished first at 166 points with George West (163) and Mathis (99) in second and third.

Eighth-grade girls

Allie Rodriguez took home a fourth place ribbon in the high jump by clearing the bar at 4-2. Felicia Ortiz placed second in the triple jump with a leap of 27-11.25 while teammate Randi Pace was fifth at 27-6 in the same event.

Lady Cat Lauren Richmond won the long jump event with a leap of 15-2. Adriana Olivarez was third in the 2,400-meter run with a time of 11:10.95. The 400-meter relay team of Allie Rodriguez, Brianna Olivarez, Alex Hinds and Lauren Richmond finished sixth with a tie of 59.38.

In the 800-meter run, Randi Pace captured a first place medal with a time of 2:43.61. Richmond also won gold in the 100-meter dash with a quick time of 13.59. Rodriguez was fourth in the 400-meter dash in 1:11.10 and teammate Brianna Olivarez was close behind in sixth in 1:14.36.

Lady Cat Randi Pace was fourth in the 300-meter hurdles in 56.55 while Emily Eernisse was fifth in 59.33. Felicia Ortiz placed fourth in the 200-meter dash in 29.81. In the metric mile, or 1,600-meter run, Adrianna Olivarez was fifth in 7:12. The 1,600-meter relay squad of Felicia Ortiz, Brianna Ortiz, Randi Pace and Lauren Richmond placed third with a time of 4:57.

The eighth-grade girls finished a distant second to the Lady Horns (247 points) from George West with 81 points.
