ROUND ROCK – The Goliad Advance-Guard was the recipient of five Division I awards for its work in 2012 from the South Texas Press Association during the STPA's annual conference Saturday.

Advance-Guard Editor Coy Slavik was runner-up in the news writing category and received honorable mention in the voting for Journalist of the Year.

The Advance-Guard, which published its first edition on July 4, 2012, took second place in page design. "Good, solid feel," the judges wrote. "I'd bet the (Advance-Guard) is quite important to the people of Goliad; certainly it deserves to be."

The Advance-Guard took third place in news photography and received honorable mention for its sports photography.
