CORPUS CHRISTI – Woodsboro Eagle Baseball team made history on Tuesday, March 26 when they played the Port Aransas Marlins at Whataburger Field, home of the Corpus Christi Hooks.

The District 31-A Baseball game was the first 1A baseball game played at Whataburger Field. Whataburger Field plays host to several high school baseball games every year, but this was the first between teams from the University Interscholastic Leagues smallest classification.

“It was an honor and a privilege to play at such a great facility. The opportunity to play at Whataburger Field and make a little history was one he could not pass up. I know the kids, parents, and fans were really excited. I would like to thank the Corpus Christi Hooks and the people at Whataburger Field for giving us the opportunity to play,” said Eagle Head Coach E.J. McNamara.

The fans were treated to a great game between the Eagles and the state ranked Marlins. The Marlins were able to push one run across in the first on a bases loaded walk. The lead off hitter walked, then the next two batters got on with soft hits to load the bases with no outs. Eagles pitcher, Garret Horner, was able to get the next to hitters out on ground balls.

The sixth batter then walked to bring in the only run in the inning. The Eagles answered in the third, scoring one run to tie the game. Johnathan Flores lead off the inning by grounding out to the pitcher. Lead hitter Garret Horner then doubled to center. Horner stole third and then scored on J.T. Blaschke’s RBI single to centerfield, tying the score at 1-1.

The Marlins added one more run in the fourth and fifth innings to make the game 3-2. The Eagles would bring the score to 3-2 in the sixth. Logan Moses lead off the inning with a walk then stole second and third and would score on a passed ball. The Port Aransas Marlins would score three more runs in the sixth inning on a walk and four hits, making the final score 6-2.

“I am proud of the way we played. We stayed with one of the top teams in the state for six innings. We made a couple of errors in the sixth inning and they took advantage,” said Eagles Baseball Coach E.J. McNamara.

Leading the way for the Eagles were Garret Horner went 2-4 with a double and a single. Horner also pitched six innings, giving eight hits, three walks and striking out eight. J.T. Blaschke went 1-3 with an RBI. Logan Moses 0-2 with a walk and run scored. Trent Moses 1-2 with a walk.
