The Kittens came-from-behind to capture a 10-8 win over the varsity visitors.
Yorktown scored two runs in the first and it was a 3-1 game after three innings. Both teams pushed across single runs in the third. The Lady Eagles got to the Kitten pitcher for four runs in the fifth and added three more in the sixth.
Yorktown was pretty much kept in check with only another single run being added to the scoreboard in the bottom of the fifth. Entering the home-half of the sixth, the Lady Eagles were on top 8-4.
Yorktown rallied in the sixth and put together a six-run outburst that left the Lady Eagles in trouble, down by two at 10-8. The Pettus girls were held scoreless in the top of the seventh to make the Kittens the winners.
Hana Kruger went 3-4 on the night with three runs scored. Tristian Moore walked three times and scored twice. Abby Cantu had two hits in four trips to the plate with three big RBIs in the loss. Destiny Carrillo also worked for three free passes and was credited with one RBI and scored once. Blanca Prieto also enjoyed a good night at the plate with three base hits in four trips and she scored one of the Pettus runs.
“I was happy with the effort our girls gave; they played hard. Things just didn’t go our way in the bottom of the sixth and that obviously cost us the game,” said head coach Anthony Ramirez.
The Lady Eagles closed out the regular season on Tuesday night with a home game against Runge.
