On behalf of Horse Tales Literacy Project (formerly the Black Stallion Literacy) and Star of Texas Arabian Horse Club, I would like to thank the following for making this year’s event such a success:

Thank you to Commissioners Court for the use of the coliseum to hold the second part of the event and to Shelby Rosales and Armando Salazar for having everything ready for us and being on hand to assist us; Beeville Rotary Club for its continued support in buying books for the students; the teachers and aides at both R.A. Hall Elementary and St. Mary’s Academy Charter School for their continued support of this program; and our Star Club members and friends who volunteered their time and horses to make this such a special event. You all contributed to give approximately 150 first-graders a special day of learning and reading to horses.

This is our seventh year to sponsor this event in Bee County, bringing horses and first-graders together to get them excited about reading; once they meet the characters in the book, they can’t wait to read and find out what happens to the boy and his little black pony.

If any first-grade class in Bee County would like to participate in the 2014 event, please contact me at 358-2320.

More information and photos can be found on the website

Happy Trails,

Virginia Cherry
