The S-T girls posted a 6-3 win over Taft on Friday night in the Lady ’Hounds’ park but lost to the powerful Lady Bulldogs on Saturday evening 14-1 in five innings.
The Taft Lady Hounds jumped in front with two runs in the first inning and then added a single run in the third. The Lady Cats did not get going until the fifth. The S-T girls got one run in the fifth and then exploded for four runs in the sixth to take the lead at 5-3. They added an insurance run in the top of the seventh but it wasn’t needed as the S-T hurlers shut down the Taft bats.
Dolores Hinojosa and Dominque Vera shared the duties in the circle for the Lady Cats. Vera was big at the plate with a RBI single in the fifth and then she stroked a double in the sixth to plate three more runs. Reagan Crittenden batted 1-for-4 and was a force on the base paths. Adrianna Arredondo went 2-3 on the night with a triple and one RBI.
On Saturday, the Lady Cats played host to Banquete.
“This was a disappointing loss after a great victory the previous night. The Lady Bulldogs came out hitting, scoring early and taking advantage of our errors and lack of drive which ultimately lead to a 10-run rule victory at the end of the fifth inning,” said head coach Ophelia De Los Santos.
The Bulldogs scored four runs in the top of the first and then six runs in the second to effectively put the game out of reach. Two more runs in the third and fifth were added to the final tally.
The Lady Cats scored their lone run in the fourth.
“Dominique Vera’s intelligent, yet aggressive base running in the fourth inning turned a walk into our only run for the afternoon. Kyanna Fira, Reagan Crittenden and Dolores Hinojosa contributed offensively but it was not enough to give us an edge,” said De Los Santos.
The Lady Cats were in George West on Tuesday night and will host Odem on Friday evening.
