ALICE – The Eagles and Lady Eagles competed in their district golf tournament at Alice Municipal Golf Course on March 26 in Alice. The Eagles placed 3rd overall at the tournament and played their best but fell short of advancing to the regional tournament as a team by only 4 strokes.

Tyler Blaschke scored a 77 which tied him for first with another player from Lasara HS and after a one hole playoff, Blaschke was declared district champion and received the gold medal. “I felt really good coming into district, and I am so excited to be going to regionals again, it is a great way to ‘go out with a bang’ during my last year as an Eagle! I look forward to playing at regionals with Justin and Brittany and to also represent Woodsboro High School,” Blaschke said.

Justin Fierova scored an 89 and brought home a bronze medal. “I am very excited to be going to regionals. This is my first year, and I am hoping to make it a big one!” Fierova said.

Quinton Burns scored a 114 and Edward Meza turned in a 121. Both boys admitted to having a tough round at district but were glad that they were part of the Eagle golf team!

Both Blaschke and Fierova will advance to the regional tournament as individual medalists on April 15 and 16 at the Brenham Country Club in Brenham.

The Lady Eagles also played their best and placed third overall as a team at the tournament in Alice on March 26. Brittany Lopez turned in the best round of the day with a score of 92 and won the title of district champion. She will also advance to the regional tournament as an individual medalist on April 15 & 16.

“This is my senior year, and I am so excited to make a return trip to regionals. I will be practicing hard because I would love to make a return trip to the state tournament as well!” senior Brittany Lopez said.

Jessica Bingenheimer turned in a score of 104 which tied her with another player from Agua Dulce and after a one hole play-off, Bingenheimer fell short of advancing to regionals by one stroke. “I was very nervous for my play-off. I wish I would have won it but I am glad that I have three more years to play! I feel like I had a good first season of golf!,” Bingenheimer said.

Kristina Foster scored a 129 and Summer scrimpsher scored a 137. Both girls agree that while “golf is not the easiest sport to learn, it is fun and enjoyable” and both plan to play again next year.

“The golfers all did great at the tournament. The competition was tough and they fought hard,” Coach Wade Miller said.
