BEEVILLE – The Moreno Middle School tennis team held its annual tournament on March 23 with good attendance and play from all those invited.

Representing the eighth-grade boys in the singles contest was John Ross Carabajal. Carabajal played extremely well but lost in consolation bracket. The eighth-grade boys double team of Gabriel Benavides and Robert Luna walked away with the consolation medal.

In the mixed doubles competition for the eighth grade, the team of Rosalyn Holland and Mark Carabajal took second overall. Destiny Jones won her first match competing in the eighth-grade girls singles but lost in her second round.

In seventh-grade action, the girls doubles team of Denise Martinez and Isabel Olivarez worked hard and played for third place but were beaten in a very close match. Cassidy Rands played girls singles for Moreno and took fourth overall.

“The tournament was a huge success and our kids, once again showed great sportsmanship. Thanks to Jesse Barrera whose help I couldn’t do without and to the freshman tennis players who helped with the concession stand,” said MMS tennis coach Julie Maupin.
