Thank you to Mr. Lonnie Stewart of Bee Groundwater Conservation District for his prompt response in addressing water issues and concerns in the Mineral and northern Bee County area. Concerns arose as a result of a public notice published in the Bee-Picayune on March 20 regarding a requested permit for high volume water pumping on Mineral Cemetery Road. Thanks also to Mr. Scott Lawrence of KemoSabe Ranch for sharing information regarding the requested permit and the ranch’s plans for a high volume water project.

A community meeting was held on March 29 at the Mineral Community Hall. At the meeting, attended by numerous Mineral area residents, Mr. Stewart gave an overview of the BGCD’s function and discussed procedures for applying for permits. He discussed current water levels and explained how levels are measured. We appreciated his input.

Thanks also go out to the many Mineral area residents who took the time and voiced their concerns at this specially called meeting. As the area continues to develop, new demands are being paced on our groundwater everywhere. We, in the Mineral area, are paying attention.

Sincerely,

Franklin D. Massey
