FREER – It took an extra inning but the host Buckaroos captured a 5-4 win over the Skidmore-Tynan Bobcats on Monday evening.

“We did a great job of battling back all game long. We made things happen on the bases and forced some mistakes, but ultimately our own mistakes doomed us,” said head coach Cody Fields.

Freer scored two runs in the bottom of the first to get things going but their lead was short-lived. The Bobcats got their offense in gear in the third and moved three runners across home plate to gain a 3-2 lead over the Buckaroos.

Freer tied things up with a run in the bottom of the second at 3-3. Neither team crossed home plate again until the sixth. Both teams scored a single run in the frame to make it a 4-4 contest.

Both teams failed to score in the seventh to force the contest into extra innings. S-T was blanked in the top of the eighth but the home team rallied and got the game-winner in the home half of the frame to escape with a one-run victory.

Bobcat Kyle Nelson went 2-4 at the plate with a run scored, RBI and a stolen base. Sebastian Hernandez batted 2-3 with an RBI and three stolen bases. Jonathan Hernandez went 2-3 with a run scored and two stolen bases. Eric Schumacher was 1-3 with two runs scored and an RBI.

Jonathan Hernandez pitched the complete game, taking the loss. Hernandez gave up two earned runs and struck out two Freer batters.

The Bobcats committed four errors in the loss.

“We put ourselves in bad situations throughout the night and Freer made us pay. We have to tighten up our defense and focus on the bases to limit our mistakes,” Fields said.
