How fortunate to be living in South Texas as spring begins and with Easter hopping upon us early this year.

Although Bee County could use more rainy days to help with our wildflowers, fields and yards (in fact, a burn ban was reissued Monday by the Commissioners Court), it certainly beats the late winter arctic blast being felt across the northern states.

As a reminder of the many attractions and upcoming spring/summer events, we at Beeville Publishing Co. again have produced our “Experience South Texas” guide, being inserted in all five of our community newspapers this week.

We encourage readers, especially newcomers and visitors, to glance through the 40 pages of stories, photos, listings and advertisements, devoted to our unique region between San Antonio and Corpus Christi, Victoria and Laredo.

In addition, we want to give a special shout-out to the Beeville Main Street program for its efforts to beautify the downtown area for the Easter season. The project is funded by the city’s Tax Increment Finance District.

Michelle Wright, Main Street program manager, and City of Beeville Street Department employees, under superintendent Albert Bridge, should be highly commended for all they have done to plant colorful flowers, landscape the City Hall grounds and planters in downtown parking areas, and add festive decorations, signage and park benches.

“Come visit Beeville, Texas and the historic Main Street for shopping, entertainment, annual events and vacation fun,” Wright says on Main Street’s Facebook page.

If you see these hard-working crews, tell them we appreciate their efforts to brighten and dress up our city.
