“We are a hybrid of a convenience store, with a full-service kitchen in our store” said Raul Garza, general manager of the Stripes store in Karnes City. “We can take care of our neighborhood customers, along with our truckers.”
Garza said that the new Stripes will bring a much needed and spacious fueling area for Karnes County that will help traffic flow and ease traffic congestion.
“We have 20 fuel pumps in the front of the store for cars and light trucks,” said Garza. “What’s really going to help out is that we got ten high-powered diesel pumps in the back of the store, which should relieve some of the traffic congestion up and down 181.”
Stripes in Karnes City boasts a total of 30 fuel pumps, eight acres of concrete pavement that can park up to 89 big rig trucks, a full-service kitchen/restaurant (Laredo Taco Company), and a store for various shopping items.
The store is also beneficial to the community because it provides employment opportunity for about 55 people, according to Garza.
Stripes Convenience Stores is based out of Corpus Christi and is a regional Fortune 500 company with a total of 560 stores in Texas, Oklahoma and New Mexico. An official grand opening for the Karnes City Stripes will be held on April 12.
“There was a need for our services out here,” said Garza. “You drive down the road and most gas stations out here only have a few pumps. There was an opportunity for us out here.”
