The A.C. Jones varsity soccer teams made the trip to San Antonio on Tuesday night to challenge the McCollum Cowboys. The two varsity squads split their matches with the Lady Trojans capturing a 2-0 win while the Trojans got outgunned, 5-2.
The Lady Trojans got the evening off to a good start with another shutout, their third in the last four games. Their win improves their district record to 3-1.
“The Lady Trojans played well. Morgan McKinney played outstanding in goal to get a shutout and our defensive effort was very good by the whole team,” said Lady Trojan head coach Robert Partida.
Mary Larakers scored on a direct kick from about 20 yards out of the box and Mallorie Garcia got the second Beeville goal on a breakaway. Garcia went head to head with the Cowgirl keeper and got the ball past her and into the back of the net.
“It was truly a team effort to win the game,” Partida said.
The Trojan match was close most of the night. The Cowboys got three late goals to break away from the Trojans to post the win.
Beeville got goals from Aaron Castilla with an assist from Matt Ortega and from forward/sweeper Jamie Eide on a kick from about 18 yards out or so.
“The guys played very hard and I am very proud of the effort. We are almost there,” said Trojan head coach Justin Soza.
The Trojans played host to Floresville on Friday night while the Lady Trojans made the trip up Hwy. 181 to pay a visit to the Floresville Jaguars.
On Tuesday night, the Trojans will be back in San Antonio to play the Southside Cardinals.
The Lady Cardinals will make the trip to Beeville to challenge the Lady Trojans. The JV contest is set to begin at 5 p.m. with the varsity meeting at about 7 o’clock.
