BEEVILLE — City Council members approved dedicating the skate park at Flournoy Park in the name of Ben Rodriguez when they met Tuesday night at City Hall.

Councilman David Carabajal made the motion to dedicate the facility in Rodriguez’s name, saying the motion was not to name the skate park, only to honor a local skater who lost his life in an automobile accident while returning home from a skate park in Corpus Christi 14 months ago.

Rodriguez was one of the skaters who wanted a skate park built in Beeville.

Carabajal’s motion was seconded by Mayor Pro Tem Mike Scotten and it passed the entire council without opposition.

The action was taken minutes before the council began a budget workshop.
