BEEVILLE — Aviation buffs will want to be at the Beeville Municipal Airport on U.S. Highway 59 east of town at 8 a.m. Saturday.

Members of the South Texas Aerospace Club NAR Section 739 will be launching rockets into the sky that morning and flying radio-controlled airplanes in the afternoon.

Rockets will be launched to non-restricted heights of 15,000 feet and in restricted airspace to altitudes of as high as 24,500 feet.

The higher flights into restricted airspace must be cleared with the Federal Aviation Administration before takeoff.

According to local organizer William Yates, only one other location in Texas is allowed to send rockets to such altitudes. The other location is in Waco.

Rockets will be launched until noon and aircraft will be flown from 1-5 p.m.

Those who attend the event will have an opportunity to meet a wounded veteran and supporter of the Wounded Warrior Project.
