Lauro Garcia Jr., a Beeville hometown boy, recently was invited to play on Team Citius USA Elite travel baseball team. Lauro Jr. was recently scouted in a Houston tournament where there he was playing on his own travel team that won the tournament. Garcia was named the tournament MVP. He was approached by the USA Team to come join them in the AAYBA National World Series which was held in Dallas, a week-long event. While there, Lauro Jr. just “wowed” the USA coaches with his batting, catching and defense. Lauro Jr. went all week with no strikeouts. He either singled, doubled or was intentionally walked. He scored four runs. His on-base percentage was a perfect 100 percent.
With the USA Team already having a regular catcher, Lauro Jr. was brought in for the last two innings of their first game and impressed the coaches so much that he caught the rest of the week, taking the number one spot as the new USA starting catcher. The TC USA Team ended up 11th out of 90 teams from all over the state.
Lauro Jr. has been asked to be a full-time player on the USA Team which will start full play in August and will start qualifying for the Elite 32 in Florida next summer. Lauro Garcia Jr. is the son of Lauro Garcia Sr. and Dora Arroyos of Beeville.
