Mr. Garza was born on Aug. 29, 1928, in Beeville, Texas. Mr. Garza was the owner of El Oberero Grocery for 47 years. He served his country proudly as a member of the United States Marines Corp and was a member of St. James Catholic Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, Rafael Garza and Valentina G. Garza; one son, Juan O. Garza Jr.; and one brother, Rafael Garza.
Survivors include his wife, Maria Ochoa Garza of Beeville, Texas; one son, Juan Ricardo Garza II of Arlington, Texas; three daughters, Sylvia Garza of Beeville, Texas, Diana (Marco) Garcia and Janie (David) Sanchez, both of Arlington, Texas; two brothers, Frank Garza Sr. of Bastrop, Texas, and Luz Garza Sr. of Beeville, Texas; two sisters, Mary Rojas and Estella Sanchez, both of Beeville, Texas; four grandchildren, Gabriella Garcia, Karina Garcia, Marina Sanchez and David L. Sanchez Jr., all of Arlington, Texas.
Rosary was recited at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, July 17, 2012, at Trevino Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral mass was celebrated on Wednesday, July 18, 2012, at 10 a.m. at St. James Catholic Church with Rev. Balaswamy Pasalala officiating. Burial followed at the Beeville Memorial Park with full military honors.
Pallbearers were David L. Sanchez Jr., Marco Garcia, Luz O. Garza Jr., Philip Alvarez, Ben Garza and Joseph Garza. Honorary pallbearers were Albert (Whitey) Harms and Rey Alaniz.
