Bee County Clerk Mirella Escamilla Davis was re-elected as director in charge of Region 8 of the County and District Clerks Association.

This will be the second two-year term for Davis, who was first elected to the office in 2010.

She is the first county or district clerk in Bee County to hold the position.

The purpose of the association is to promote professional standards, to provide a means for the education of its members regarding the statutory and constitutional duties of the offices of the county clerk and district clerk, and to participate in the legislative, judicial and executive processes of state government beneficial in the performance of the members’ duties.

While the title is an honor, Davis said that it also comes with more work.

As director in charge, Davis will, among other duties, be the liaison between the clerks of her region and the executive board of the association.

There are 34 counties in Region 8, which includes Bee County.

Davis was elected during the association meeting April 12 in Alice.
