The women’s state powerlifting meet was held in Corpus Christi this past weekend on March 16. For the first time, George West Lady Horns powerlifting has won a state championship.

George West had two girls compete at the meet, Jay Carrillo and Yolanda Sanchez. Jay Carrillo placed first overall and Yolanda placed third. I could not be more proud of the girls, they worked so hard all season and it showed.



The boys’ regional powerlifting meet was held in Bishop on March 10. George West had five powerlifters competing, Matt Martinez, Eli Garcia, Anderson Daniels, Bryan Chesser and Nathan Morin.

Anderson Daniels placed first, Eli Garcia placed third, Bryan Chesser placed fourth, Matt Martinez and Nathan Morin placed seventh. Anderson Daniels will compete at the state meet in Abilene March 24.
