GW Lady Horns beat TR Lady Bulldogs

Last Friday night the Lady Horns hosted the Lady Bulldogs for the last district game of the first round of play in District 31-2A.

The first half of play was back-to-back play for both teams with the score ending with GW leading 15-13. Both teams were fighting hard for every basket and playing tough defense.

The third quarter the Lady Horns came out and scored 20 points to Three Rivers 11, Justine Troell hit two three’s and Alyssa Johnston hit one. The fourth quarter GW continued the strong defense and hit 15 points to pick up their fifth district win.

Leading the scoring for the Lady Horns was Johnston with 16, Troell with 12, Kim Villafranca added eight, Savannah Franco stuck seven, Veronica Gutierrez had four and Kayla Wallek added a three.

The Lady Horns shot 51 percent from the free throw line and TR was 47 percent. Rebounding for GW was Hannah Iley with 11, Gutierrez with 10, Johnston had nine, Wallek jumped up and grabbed five, Jessica Gasaway and Whitley Combs got three each and Kelsi Wallek and Franco added two. Franco led the steals with seven, Gutierrez had three and followed by Iley, Troell, Gasaway and Kayla Wallek. Iley had a block in the middle of the key that followed with two points for the Lady Horns.

The ladies are 5-1 in District play and 14-9 overall.

Way to go ladies, second round begins Tuesday night come out and support the Lady Horns.
