The Bee County Library is a great place to find books, but it also offers many programs and activities for every kind of patron.

The Joe Barnhart Bee County Library has many programs and activities for all ages going on in the spring and summer of 2011.

Adult

Computer classes are held every Monday at 6 p.m. These classes cover a range of basic computing skills including an introduction to the internet, email, and Microsoft Office.

The adult book club, the Reading Bee, is held the last Thursday of every month at 1 p.m. For details about the book selection visit the book club blog at jbbclbc.blogspot.com.

Support the library and pick up some great summer vacation reads at the semi-annual book sale. Visit the library website at www.bclib.org for details.

Spring for teens

Operation Anime is held once a month on Saturdays and includes an anime film. Check the Library website at www.bclib.org for details.

On alternating Mondays at 6 p.m., teens can participate in a library-wide LAN party featuring the game Wolfenstein or demonstrate their kinetic skills at the afterhours Wii Party.

Spring for children and family

Bring your family to storytimes and relax as the talented children’s library Staff entertain you. Family Storytime is held every Wednesday at 11 a.m.

Toddler Storytime is held every Friday at 2 p.m., where books are specially selected for the little ones.

On Saturdays at 2 p.m., express your creativity with a themed activity at Storytime & Crafts.

Our Midday Movie Madness event occurs once a month with family-friendly films. Check with the library or visit our website (www.bclib.org) to find out each month’s feature presentation.

Summer teen programs

60 Second Showdown will be held June 7 and July 26 at 6 p.m. 60 Second Showdown is a competition between teens to see who can perform a simple task in 60 seconds. Prizes will be awarded to the winners and the grand champion, who will be given the title of the library’s top winner for 60 Second Showdown for the summer this year.

Customize your world with teen crafts on Monday, June 13, June 27, July 11, or July 18 at 10 a.m.

The library will hold a Mario Smash Bros. tournament pinning the Victoria Public Library against the Joe Barnhart Bee County Library! Match your skills against the teens in Victoria on Monday, July 25 at 2 p.m.

Summer programs for children

Friday and Saturday storytimes will be moved to 10 a.m. during the summer. Family storytime will still be every Wednesday at 11 a.m.

Bee Kids Reading Club registration will be held Monday, May 23. The program will begin Wednesday, June 1 and end Saturday, July 16. There will be a kick-off party featuring a magician on Wednesday, June 1, where the kids can come and receive their title logs and prize lists.

Adventure storytime begins Tuesday, June 7 at 2 p.m. and will be held every Tuesday and Thursday at 2 p.m. during the summer. This program will end on Thursday, August 4. Come for fun, crafts and snacks.

Earning by Learning (EBL) will begin on Monday, June 13 at 1 p.m. and continue until Saturday, July 23 at 1 p.m. For details about EBL, please visit the library website after May 1 at www.bclib.org.

The library will be holding its annual spelling bee on Thursday, July 28, at 6 p.m. This program is for students in the third- through eighth-grades Words will be handed out Tuesday, July 5. Prizes will be awarded for first and second place contestants.

Special events

The first special event will take place on March 26 at 2 p.m. when representatives from the Texas Zoo come for a visit. Remember— some of these ‘representatives’ will be the animals themselves!

The Easter Edible Craft event will take place on Wednesday, April 13, at 4 p.m.

Dinosaur George will be back again bringing dinosaur fossils with him on Thursday, July 14, at 6 p.m.

Mr. Puppet will be here to perform his show on Thursday, July 21 at 6 p.m.

Don Harms will be performing the play “Cinderella” with his marionettes (puppets) on Thursday, June 9, at 2 p.m. at the Beeville Community Center.
