Lady Trojan Elizabeth Segovia will be making her third trip to the state powerlifting meet as she qualified with a second place finish at this weekend’s Region IV meet at Calallen in the 220-pound division.

Segovia placed second as a freshman at state and competed as a sophomore, also taking second place.

Her third trip may be the lucky one and it will be at the Corpus Christi American Bank Center on March 19.

The second place finish was not her personal best but the three-lift total of 1,025 pounds was good for second place. Segovia managed a 460-pound squat, a 205-pound bench press and a 360-pound dead-lift for her 1,025 total. The top lifter in her weight class has a 50-pound advantage going into the state tournament but adrenaline and desire can make a difference. All the competitors will begin with the same chance.

Trojan Adam Aleman will be competing at region Saturday in Weslaco for a chance to advance to the state meet.
