This website is the latest collaborative endeavor of the member colleges of TACC. Dual Credit Texas offers a simple online location for high school students and educators seeking information about dual credit opportunities. It contains lists of all Academic and Career/Technical course offerings at community colleges across the state. Also, the website provides links to local community colleges’ dual credit programs.
“Community colleges in Texas are the first choice for over 100,000 high school students seeking dual credit opportunities, and for the first time, these students can now access a single website to link to local colleges around the state,” said Dr. Cheryl Sparks, chair of the TACC E-Learning Committee and president of Howard College.
“We are excited to help launch Dual Credit Texas in an effort to better connect high school students and their families to thousands of college courses,” added Dr. Richard Rhodes, TACC chair and president of El Paso Community College.”
Courses offered for dual credit stem from agreements between high schools and community colleges whereby a high school junior or senior enrolls in a college course and simultaneously earns college credit and high school credit for that course.
“Coastal Bend College’s Dual Credit Program staff has entered all current dual credit courses into the master list and the spring semester course schedule was included,” said Ann Harrell, CBC dual credit coordinator and director of CBC Alice Campus. “We will be able to enter our information each semester so that the site remains current. In addition to the semester schedule and course offerings, there is a link to our program website. The Coastal Bend College Dual Credit Handbook, Counselor Handbook, Dual Credit Brochure and loads of additional information can be downloaded or viewed from that site.”
Partnerships between Texas secondary schools and community colleges have enabled to make their transition to college smoother and increasing their likelihood of graduating from college.
