Mrs. Shay was born Feb. 13, 1935, to John F. Rainosek Sr. and Annie Zvesper Rainosek and grew up on a small farm between Weimar and Schulenburg.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Mary Rainosek; and a brother, John F. Rainosek Jr.
Survivors include her husband of almost 57 years, Wallace Shay; two daughters, Kathleen (Darrin) Aldrich and Melany (Gregg) Pullin; two sons, Philip (Patty) Shay and David (Theresa) Shay; three sisters, Ann Rainosek, Martha Jurecka and Marcella Rainosek; a brother, Frank Rainosek; eight grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
A rosary was recited at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 19, at Moore Funeral Home Chapel.
The funeral Mass was celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 20, at Our Lady of Refuge Catholic Church. Burial was at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Refugio.
Pallbearers were John Fish, Alan Hobbs, Jay Fischer, Gerald Royal, Frank Scanio, Tom Reilly, Jimmy Haynes and Monte Sternadel.
Honorary pallbearers were Michael Shay, Sarah Shay, Daniel Shay, Paige Shay, Abigail Shay, Jackson Pullin, Elizabeth Aldrich and Madelyn Aldrich.
