WOODSBORO – The Hebbronville Junior High Longhorns answered each Woodsboro score and outlasted the 7th grade Eagles 44-22 last Thursday. The Eagles stayed toe to toe with the Longhorns for two and one half quarters before Hebbronville began to pull away.

Quarterback Roel Flores got things going for Woodsboro scoring on an eight yard touchdown run in the second quarter to tie the game at 6-6. Down 30-6 with three minutes left in the third quarter, Flores broke a couple of tackles and rambled 50 yards for another Eagle score. Flores also added the two point conversion to cut the lead to 30-14.

Hebbronville continued to answer with scores of their own. The Eagles last score came with less than a minute left in the third quarter. Calob Jochetz took a lateral and then hit Flores with a beautifully thrown 40 yard touchdown pass. Trenton Payne added the two point conversion to round out the scoring for Woodsboro.

Tristan Briseno, Jaren Ortiz, Teddy Perez, Devin Perez, Noel Vega, Jaden Perez, Zach “Z-Mo” Moses, Zion Anderson and Tanner Vanek all turned in good efforts for Woodsboro.

“Our kids played hard and did a great job of keeping up with Hebbronville,” said Coach Keith Williams. “We are getting some great experience and a lot of playing time for our kids, and we will see this pay off for us down the road. Thanks to everyone for coming out to support us.”
