The annual Refugio County Crop Tour set for Wednesday, June 13.

“Each year the Crops Committee plans and coordinates this event to highlight agricultural production and provide timely information to the growers and agri-businesses in the area,” said Michael Donalson, extension agent for Refugio County. “The production, storage, and marketing of agricultural commodities plays an enormous role in the local economy, and the crop tour provides the culture in which producers and consumers can come together to share this heritage.”

Educational programs will be presented by Texas AgriLife Extension Service, Texas Department of Agriculture, USDA Farm Service Agency, USDA Natural Resource and Conservation Service and the Texas Boll Weevil Eradication Program.

The morning program kicks off at 7 a.m. with registration and breakfast at Canales Café in Tivoli.

The afternoon program gets underway at 4 p.m. with registration at the Bonnie View Park and concludes with a barbecue dinner and social following a tour of the test plots.

The Crop Tour Programs will provide continuing education units towards re-certification of pesticide applicator licenses. Three CEU’s will be offered for each tour.

There is a $10 “suggested” registration fee for CEU’s to offset program costs and assist with partial cost recovery program.

The Refugio County Crops Committee, with the financial support of numerous sponsors, will host both the breakfast and the barbecue meal.

“The public is invited to join in the fellowship and education scheduled for this year’s crop tour,” Donalson said.
