The Cats finished with 176 total points, winning their second track meet in a row.
The Bobcats had one of their strongest showings of the season in the field events.
The triple jump competitors got things kicked off with Devon LaFrance placing first (42’6), Daidrin Dukes finishing second (41’11), and Robert Frazier finishing third (41’7).
The same three athletes all placed in the long jump as well. LaFrance placed third (19’3); Frazier placed fourth (19’1), and Dukes placed fifth (18’8).
The throwers made just as big of an impact starting with the discus throw where Brent Wendel placed first (136’9) and James Durst placed second (119’3).
Wendel was also awarded the gold medal in the shot put with a throw of 43’2. Jonathan Cantu and Devin Tagle placed fourth and fifth respectively.
The Cats finished the field events with 69 points.
The Bobcats continued their dominance into the running portion of the meet.
The 4x100 relay (JB Brown, Isaiah Perez, Marquis Brown, Jaylon Mascorro) finished second with a time of 44.48.
The 4x200 relay (Jesse Juarez, LaFrance, Frazier, Marquis Brown) continued to drop their time finishing first with a time of 1:31.6.
This continues to be one of the fastest times in the area.
The 4x400 relay (Isaiah Perez, Durst, JT Moya, JB Brown) continued to improve as they finished third with a time of 3:42.9.
Once again, the Cats had a strong showing in the hurdles, sprints and middle distance.
LaFrance finished first in the 110 hurdles (15.72) and first in the 300 hurdles (42.81). Dukes placed fifth in the 110 hurdles.
JT Moya had another strong performance in the 800 meter run finishing fourth with a time of 2:15.
Jim LaFond came back from an injury to place second in the 100 meter dash (11.61) and JB Brown and Mascorro placed fifth and sixth.
The 200 meter dash trio of Marquis Brown (23.03), Frazier (23.36) and Juarez (23.61) placed first, second and fourth.
Durst had another solid showing in the quarter-mile placing sixth with a time of 56.03.
I’m proud of this team for the time they put in, the way they compete and for winning two track meets in a row.
That really is something special.
Thanks to all the parents and supporters of Refugio Bobcat track and field.
The Cats will compete at the district 30-2A track and field meet in Goliad, on Saturday, April 5.
